What Is Individual Therapy?
At The Integration Centre, we provide a confidential one-to-one space online to explore current difficulties, life experiences, emotional patterns, behaviour, relationships, identity, and functioning. Therapy is process-based, this means we look at what is maintaining distress or reduced functioning over time, rather than focusing only on symptoms or diagnosis. The work is collaborative, practical, and paced according to the person’s readiness and goals.
Who We Work With
We primarily work with veterans, Australian Defence Force personnel, emergency services personnel, and frontline workers.
Therapy may support people navigating service-related stress, trauma exposure, transition, emotional strain, identity change, relationship difficulties, avoidance, reduced functioning, loss of purpose, or patterns that are becoming difficult to shift alone
How Therapy Works
Initial Assessment
The first two to three sessions usually focus on understanding your current concerns, relevant background, goals, risk, functioning, strengths, and supports. You do not need to retell every detail of difficult experiences for therapy to begin.
Formulation and Treatment Direction
We work together to identify the patterns that may be maintaining distress, avoidance, disconnection, or reduced functioning. This may include patterns in the body, emotions, thoughts, behaviour, relationships, identity, values, and purpose. The formulation helps guide treatment targets and gives therapy a clear direction.
Targeted Therapeutic Work
Ongoing sessions focus on the processes most relevant to your needs. This may include regulation strategies, emotional processing, cognitive and behavioural flexibility, values-based action, relational work, identity and purpose-focused work, or trauma-focused therapy where appropriate.
Integration Between Sessions
Therapy is supported by practical integration points between sessions. These may include noticing patterns, practising regulation, applying strategies, reflecting on values, or taking small steps toward change.
Trauma-Focused Therapy
EMDR and TF-CBT therapy may be included within individual therapy where clinically appropriate.
TF-CBT uses traditional talk therapy and behavioural exposure, whereas EMDR relies on memory reprocessing guided by bilateral stimulation. Your therapist will discuss these with you prior to commencement.
Evidence-Based Care
We draw on evidence-informed therapies including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, cognitive and behavioural strategies, mindfulness-based skills, EMDR and TF-CBT where clinically appropriate, somatic regulation work, and attachment-informed therapy. These are used within a process-based framework, guided by the client’s goals, readiness, and real-world context.
