Who We Support
The Integration Centre provides psychological support for current and former first responders and frontline personnel, including:
- State and territory police officers
- Australian Federal Police personnel
- Paramedics and ambulance personnel
- Firefighters
- State Emergency Service personnel
- Correctional officers
- Other emergency service and frontline personnel
Support may relate to critical incidents, cumulative exposure, operational and organisational pressures, relationships, stress, anxiety, mood difficulties, adjustment, or the impact that frontline work can have on life outside the job.
You do not need to be in crisis or have a particular diagnosis before making contact.
Accessing Psychological Support
There are several ways first responders can access psychological support through The Integration Centre.
QPS SelfRefer
The Integration Centre provides psychological support through the Queensland Police Service SelfRefer Program.
Eligible QPS employees can access confidential psychological support through the program without requiring a GP referral. If you are seeking a QPS SelfRefer appointment, let us know when you make contact.
Workers Compensation & Insurance
The Integration Centre provides psychological treatment for first responders accessing care through workers compensation and insurer-funded pathways across Australia.
We currently work with WorkCover Queensland, Comcare and the Insurance Commission of Western Australia (ICWA), and welcome referrals through relevant workers compensation and insurance schemes across all Australian states and territories.
Referral, claim, approval and provider requirements vary between schemes. If you already have a claim or insurer involved, provide those details when you contact us and we can help clarify the next step.
If you are unsure whether your treatment can be funded through your scheme, you are still welcome to contact us before arranging an appointment.
Medicare & Private Appointments
First responders can also access psychology privately.
Where eligible, Medicare rebates may be available with an appropriate GP referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan.
You do not need to be accessing support through your employer or workers compensation scheme to make an enquiry.
Understanding Frontline Culture
The Integration Centre specialises in psychological care for veterans and first responders, with an understanding of the operational, organisational and cultural pressures that can come with high-demand frontline roles.
We recognise that policing, ambulance, fire, emergency response and corrections are different environments, and that each person’s experience of their role is different.
Support is practical, collaborative and focused on what is happening for you now — without assumptions about what you have experienced or how it has affected you.
What to Expect
Psychological support at The Integration Centre is practical, collaborative and tailored to your individual circumstances.
Your first appointment is an opportunity to discuss what is happening, what you would like support with, and the most appropriate way forward. You will not be expected to recount difficult operational experiences before you are ready.
If you are accessing treatment through an insurer, employer program or other funded pathway, we will also clarify any relevant referral, approval or reporting requirements before treatment begins.
