Who We Support

We provide psychological support for:

  • Current-serving Australian Defence Force members
  • Veterans and former ADF members
  • Army, Navy and Air Force personnel
  • Reservists
  • Members preparing to transition out of Defence
  • Partners and family members affected by military service

Support may relate to operational experiences, workplace and organisational pressures, transition from service, relationships, injury, identity changes, stress, anxiety, mood difficulties, or challenges adjusting to life during or after Defence.

You do not need to have a diagnosis or know exactly what you want to work on before making contact.

Accessing Psychological Support

There are several ways veterans and current-serving ADF members can access psychological support through The Integration Centre.

Veterans – DVA

We welcome DVA clients, DVA Veteran Cards (Gold and White) are accepted as payment upon a GP referral.

The Integration Centre also provides Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for tinnitus, including for eligible veterans accessing treatment through DVA tinnitus pathways.

Current DVA referral and treatment-cycle requirements apply. If you are unsure what referral information is needed, you are welcome to contact us before your appointment.

Current-Serving ADF Members

We provide psychological services for current-serving ADF members through the Bupa ADF Health Services pathway.

If you are seeking Defence-funded psychological support, speak with your Defence health centre or referring clinician about accessing The Integration Centre.

Current-serving members are also welcome to contact us directly to discuss private appointment options.

Medicare & Private Appointments

Veterans and ADF family members can access psychology privately.

Where eligible, Medicare rebates may be available with an appropriate GP referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan.

Understanding Defence Culture

Effective psychological support for veterans and ADF members requires an understanding of the culture and context in which people serve.

The Integration Centre combines clinical expertise with lived military experience. Principal Psychologist Jason Walker served for 14 years in the Australian Army, bringing an understanding of military culture, operational demands, service identity and the challenges that can come with transition from Defence.

We recognise that every person’s experience of service is different. Support is practical, collaborative and focused on what matters to you now.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Your first appointment is an opportunity to talk through what is happening for you now, what has brought you to therapy, and what you would like support with.

You do not need to prepare a detailed account of your service history or discuss difficult experiences before you are ready.

We will clarify your priorities, discuss the most appropriate way forward, and make sure the support provided is suited to your current circumstances.

Frequently asked questions

We’ve answered some common questions about accessing psychological support for veterans and current-serving ADF members, including DVA referrals, Defence pathways, appointments and confidentiality.
